Studies and Statistics:
Salt Lake City Survey (2006)
The Salt Lake City Police Department is one of the biggest proponents of
"Verified Response" despite the fact that the city's crime rate remains far
above the national average. In 2006, the Alarm Industry Research &
Education Foundation contracted a national research firm to ask Salt Lake City
residents what they think about the policy.
Olympia, WA - Alarm Policy Report (2006)
The city of Olympia, WA, is a prime example of how jurisdictions can
successfully lower their dispatches with policies other than "Verified
Response." Since implementing its policies in 2003, the city has reduced
dispatches by more than 70 percent and recouped 88 percent of the cost of
responding to "false alarms."
City of Los Angeles
In 2003, the city of Los Angeles conducted the most
extensive review of Verified Response to-date. A special Burglar
Alarm Task Force
determined that it would not be wise for the city to implement the
policy.
Lexington County, SC - Alarm
Policy Report (2007)
Within the first six months of its new burglar alarm policy, the Lexington
County, SC, Sheriff's department reduced its dispatches by nearly 25 percent.
The policy focuses on user education and accountability. It allows alarm
owners to have two "false alarms," and then assessed a fee if the problem
continues.
